All Things In His Hand (John 3:35)
The Father loves the Son and has given all things into his hand.
Such a little word with so much packed into it: “all”.
The Father has all things – in heaven, and on earth, and under the earth. The sky and the land and the water and all the things that dwell therein, the Father has. There is nothing outside our heavenly Father; from that annoying stain to the hearts of world leaders, from the farthest star to the ants crawling under our feet, the Father has them all.
He has given all things – all of them – into the hand of the Son. The fullness of God is in Christ Jesus, in whom all things live and move and have their being. All things are in the hands of Jesus.
These things have been given by the Father to the Son in love. The love that the Father has for the Son inspired the giving; the love the Father has for all things is held by the love of the Son for all things. God so loved the world that he gave his only-begotten Son, and the Son has been given all things in that same love.
Whatever is coming up today, whatever happened yesterday, and every blink and breath and shuffle of the current moment is in the hand of the Lord, and is coming from and returning to his love over it all. Whatever worries we have can be safely entrusted to the Lord, for he has all things in his hand, and he is holding it in his love.
What are you worried about right now? How will the Lord deal with those worries?
Sovereign God of providence, in whose hands are the plans and purposes of all things: hold us in your loving hands, that we may see your love in all things, and feel safe in giving them all to you.
