Our God is not a distant God; we do not have to call out from the other end of the house to get his attention. Nor is he a mechanical God; there is no switch to flick to set him to “blessings: on”. God is not stingy, nor is he even sensible in the amount he gives away; his mercy is over all that he has made. Consider also the name of God we are given in today’s first lesson: “I am the Lord, your healer”. Christ the Great Physician heals all our diseases, and behold, he is with us always, to the end of the age.
