Keep these words that I am commanding you today in your heart.

Keep the love of God in your heart. Not in the hands; they can only work, but if they are directed from a loving heart, they can work miracles. If the love of God is kept only in the head, then that love is brittle, and shatters at the first strain. But if the head is directed from a heart that loves, then the intellect is set on fire and is infused with the power of God.

To love God is a commandment: it is not something to choose to follow or not. There is a direct one-to-one relationship between loving God and fulfilling the call on us to be a human being. Loving God does not start as a feeling, it starts as a duty (albeit the most honourable duty we are called to). When we follow our duty to love God, then that love flames into a blaze of desire. That is to say, love walks the walk, as well as talks the talk.

Finally, loving God is something that happens today. Is today looking bleak? Love God through it all, and your evening rest will be greater than the king on his feather bed. Is today looking exciting? Love God through it all and it will be heaven on earth.

Tonight, we will go to sleep. Then we will wake up, and it will again be Today: the day to love the Lord our God with all our heart, with all our soul, and all our might, and so shall the high blessing of God’s love be such throughout all generations.
